GAME SUMMARIES

Sunday night, January 13th,
the Wilmette Braves were looking for revenge against the
Huskies after a Saturday loss to them. The team was back
to full strength after being down Sam Polan and Bryan Sable.
The Huskies scored first
quickly at 10:35 of the first period after Bartek's save too a
trickey bounce. But, with just 3 seconds left in the period,
the Braves came back when Daniel Fuwa displayed great stick
handling skills advancing up the ice. His pass to Bryan Sable
who tipped it off to David Brody who came flying up the
middle, tied up the game.
The second period was
scoreless. Though the Huskies had a couple of colossal
mutants on their team, Wilmette managed to hold them back led
by the defense work of Danny Grossman, Neil Keane, Neville
Hemming, Andrew Park, and Sam Polan who swallowed their fear
and returned the Huskie's body-crushing checks tit for tat.
There was also some solid fore-checking by Chris Bielanski,
Alex Kitchie, Brian Fraley and Mason Maddox.
In the third period Connor
Nystuen targeted a great pass to Davis O'Connell who
fired in the go-ahead goal. Unfortunately, just 19
seconds later, the Huskies returned the favor, tying the game
to where it ended at 2-2. Bartek Cajun had a superlative game,
holding back an onslaught of 23 shots on goal to Wilmette's
17.
Like David and Goliath, the
smaller but faster Wilmette team almost took down the giants.

South Bend 5 Wilmette 2 SouthBend
looked at Wilmette and saw revenge. Wilmette looked at
South Bend and thought pizza after the game. Will, South
Bend got their revenge, outshooting Wilmette 27-16 and winning
5-2. Wilmette scored first on a great rebound shot by
Davis O'Connell off a hard shot by Chris Bielanski. Then
it was South Bend's turn, scoring two goals in 32 seconds.
Wilmette tied it up with an assist by Neville Hemming to Neil
Kitchie who made a great pass to Mason Maddox who buried it
home. Unfortunately, South Bend scored the next three goals
including an open netter with 13 seconds left. Grossman, Parke,
Fuwa, Fraley, Sable, Brody and Keane all made and took hits from
the Indiana giants. Bartek Cajun made some great saves to keep
the game within reach but there was no pizza tonight.

Wilmette 5 @ South Bend 2
After a
long and energetic bus ride, Wilmette seemingly left a little on
the bus and found themselves down 2-0 to South Bend early in the
first period. With
Coach Jim and a recovering Connor Nystuen providing strategy
from the bench, the Braves put together the right combination of
passing and checking to break their long scoring drought late in
the first. The line
of David Brody, Andrew Parke and Bryan Sable did much of the
early damage. Bryan
Sable set up camp in front of the South Bend net and it paid off
as David Brody delivered the pass to Bryan S. for
the score.
The
Braves came out on fire in the second period and Bryan S. put
another one away to tie the game at two.
From then on, it was all Wilmette.
The Braves peppered the South Bend goal keeper with shot
after shot. Mason
Maddox just missed as he rang a wrist shot off the post.
Brian Fraley, after a nifty
pass to Alex Kitchie, got it back on a rebound and
scored. Next, Brian
S. got the hat trick after
planting himself in his favorite spot in front of the net
and the second period ended with Wilmette on top 4-2.
The
defensive crew of Danny Grossman, Neville Hemming, Neil Keane
and Sam Polan took it to South Bend in the third stanza and
Bartek Cajun repeatedly slammed the door.
Daniel Fuwa, with assists from Chris Bielanski and Davis
O’Connell, finished off the scoring and the Braves got out of
town (after a detour for some surprisingly good South Bend
pizza) with a much-needed 5-2 win.
Way to go Braves! |

WILMETTE 1 @ SABRES 3
Tuesday night our team traveled far south-west to Woodridge to
face south division runner-up Sabres . It was very
important game , first after devastateing defeat to
Huskies#1 . Main question !! Can our boys find the right
track which led them to big wins over Winnetka and Flames ?
Braves started shorthanded with only 11 skaters .
During the first period both teams worked hard and scored one
goal each . First , sabres player skated over the blue
line in the front of our net and made the shot . Puck
bounced over Bartek's stick and has landed inside . But 1
minute 8 seconds later , after big scramble by the Sabres net ,
Chris Bielanski stole the puck and tied the game . Second
period was a key to whole game . Well... we showed up
.Sabres outshoted Braves 16 to 2 . Our strong defence and
solid goaltending limited home team to only 1 goal . The
last period our boys started with nothing to lose so all
action moved into the Sabres zone . Our stikers , led by
Chris Bielanski and Alex Kitchie created some good scoring
chances but unfortunately score did not change . About 1
minute remaining coach Steve pull out the goalie . It also did't
help . More - Sabres scored empty neter with only 0.8
second before the buzzer . This game was big welcome to
tier 1 . No more easy games . So ? Work hard boys and have
more luck next time . I wish you the best . A. G. Shots on
goal : Sabres 30 Braves 12. |

PEEWEE BRONZE RALLIES BEHIND INJURED PLAYER CONNOR NYSTUEN TO
EXTINGUISH FLAMES!
After a Flames player
injured Connor N. (broken collar bone) during last week's home
game Peewee Bronze got fired up to win Sunday's game against the
Flames on their ice (which made the win all the sweeter!).
John Keane summed it up simply and eloquently when he bellowed
"FUUUUUWAAA!" at the end of the game. Maybe John could
be an umpire. A determined Mason Maddox (fighter to the
end) put the flaming biscuit past the Flames goalie during the
2nd period and shortly after, red hot Fuuuwaaa nailed one, to
which the Flames responded one minute later. By the way,
our goalie and defense were on fire as well and took some hits
from Paul Bunyan and the Jolly Green Giant on the other team.
What are the feeding those kids anyhow? Some great saves
were made by Bartek, especially on the breakaways. Andrew
Parke, Neil Keane, Sam Polan, Danny Grossman, and Neville
Hemming all fought long and hard to keep the Flames' offense at
bay. Bryan Sable fought his way through the Flames defense and
had a couple of very nice shots. Chris and David worked
long and hard and had some great shots. 2 more goals were
scored by Davis and Alex and the last one was by Fuuuuwaaa!
Brian Fraley lifted his elbow and someone ran into it--can you
believe that he got called on that? Patrick Cremin took
some hard hits and gave a few as well, fighting to the victorious
end! Great job by all! And how about those
coaches? B. Bolger

10/19/01 vs
Glenview
Glenview never knew what hit them. A five-goal first
period and the fat lady was warming up her vocal chords. Alex
Kitchie scored the first goal on a nice assist from Brian Fraley
and Mason Maddox. Glenview's goalie thought it was deja vu
as the same three did it again with Kitchie backhanding the puck
over the goalie's shoulder. David Brody then streaked down
the left side for an unassisted goal. Chris Bielanski then
scored a great goal on a perfect pass by Danny Grossman. Daniel
Fuwa, moving up from defense to join the Brody-Sable line, split
the defenders on a swift move almost scoring but with Brody
there jamming it home for his second. Shell-shocked Glenview
switched goalies after an injury. In the second period, Chris
Bielanski scored his second goal by spinning around after an
on-the-money pass from Davis O'Connell. Finally, in the third
period, Connor Nystuen passed to Brody behind the net who set up
Davis O'Connell for a sweet backhand goal ending the slaughter.
Bartek Cajun almost got a shut out,
saving sixteen shots and allowing only one freak goal that
sneaked in. The defense was the key to the game with
awesome play and tenacity exhibited by Neil Keane, Danny
Grossman, Andrew Parke and Sam Polan. Any plans Glenview had for
scoring were always quickly erased by this fearsom foursome's
play all over the ice. Great game, Wilmette.

Wilmette 5 Falcons 4
The Braves skated with
determination. Great passing and defense play was the key
to the game. The line of Sable, Brody and Cremin looked
like they'd been playing together for years. The passing
was crisp and on the mark. The goalie for the Falcons was
tough even though the plays were there. David Brody
finally poked one in late in the second period from Bryan Sable.
Defensive play was the name of the game when the men in stripes
are only focusing on the boys in blue. Mason Maddox as the
lone offensive player and the defensive crew, Neil Keane, Danny
Grossman, Daniel Fuwa, Sam Polan and Andrew Parke were able to
keep the puck out of our zone on the penalty kills. The
Nystuen, Bielanski and O'Connell line were able to dump 3 in
during the course of the game. Last, but certainly not
least, Kitchie off the face off and that makes 5.

| 10/6/01 vs
Cryst. Lake 3-2
With Jim Peterson coaching
alone, Wilmette dominated this Sat. nite away game for all 3
periods, outshooting Crystal Lake by almost a 4:1 margin.
In the 1st minute, Danny Grossman nailed one, but may other
shots never got by the Crystal Lake goalie. Some great
shots were made by Chris B., but to no avail. Nice
defensive work by Daniel F. , Andrew P., Alex K., and Neil K.
Mason Maddox and Bryan Sable scored the other 2 goals.
Bartek made some really great saves, especially one in the last
period. This was a great game and I think next time we can
win by a bigger margin. O.K. so I don't have the snappy
lingo like John Keane, but I did my best. If I didn't
mention a player, it's probably because I was talking during
your spectacular move!

10/1/01
vs Lake County
Coming
off a tough loss the night before the Braves came out
with a determined attitude.
Chris Bielanski started the charge
early by scoring on a Connor Nystuen assist.
Chris & Connor
teamed up to assist Davis O’Connell ‘s score midway thru
the
first period.
The Atoms struck back with a goal to keep it close
as the first period ended 2-1 in favor of the good guys.
The
second period featured Danny Grossman going the full
length of the ice to score unassisted.
This would be the last time
the game was close.
Mason Maddox scored our fourth goal
assisted by Fraley & Kitchie.
Stronger “D” combined with
aggressive offense defused the Atoms.
Our guys kept the
opponent under control for the remainder of the game.
Davis
O’Connell scored again in the third with an assist from
“Mr. Determination” Chris Bielanski.
Surviviving a 5 on 3
the Braves, led by the Bartek wall could not be scored
upon.
David Brody thru in one more goal for good measure as the
Braves pounded out a 6-1 victory.

Sunday 9/30 vs
Barrington
Wilmette came out fast and hard
and appeared to have an early goal from their early pressure
but it was not allowed by the officials.
Wilmette outplayed and outshot their opponents yet trailed
after the first period 1-0. The second period was
played even despite Wilmette's 3 power plays and at the end
of the second period the score was still 1-0.
Barrington took a 2-0 lead midway through the third period
and the braves looked beaten. Alex Kitchie scored on a
breakaway with less than 5 minutes to go to give the the
braves a chance. However, the braves got
whistled for a questionable penalty with about 2:25
remaining and then gave up an empty net goal with 11 seconds
remaining. The Braves lost 3-1 despite outshooting
their opponent 21-14.
